We are sad that we won’t see each other at the Louisville Pride Festival this year, but we are still going to deliver on our mission of bringing communities together through collaboration, empowerment, and celebration!

We invite you to join us in giving back during our Celebration of Community!

There are two ways you can get involved and give back to the community:

September 19th Community Day of Service – Get outdoors with neighbors and show your pride in your community. Maybe the park in your neighborhood needs a little sprucing up or maybe your community center could use a deep clean. Captain a team, connect with your neighbors, and get outdoors to show your pride in a safe and socially distant service project.

Clothe the West Supply DriveClothe the West is a grassroots community organization that provides new clothing and personal items to children and teens in need in West Louisville. Brand new clothes are provided by Black Lives Matter, but your support is greatly needed to provide personal items such as hair bonnets and durags, shampoo, socks, underwear, and shoes. You can donate by purchasing from this Amazon wishlist or shop locally and drop off your donations.

For years, we’ve seen the Louisville Pride Community come together to celebrate at the festival, so let’s show how we can come together in 2020 to make a contribution!

Day of Service FAQ

Q: How do I sign up?

A: You can simply click one of the ‘sign up’ buttons on this page or visit our sign up page.

Q: How can I submit a project for our organization?

A: Go to our signup page and choose Option B – “Project Submission” to put in your request. We’ll add your project to our list and do our best to find a captain and volunteers.

Q: What is a Team Captain?

A: Team Captains help recruit volunteers and leads the project. If you’re not sure what to do, we can provide you with advice on recruiting volunteers, reaching out to your neighbors, suggestions for projects, etc. Captains can take a park location that needs some attention or organize a project in your own neighborhood. If you sign up as a Team Captain, we will add your project to the list on our signup page and others can then sign up to join you.

Captains get a free Louisville Pride t-shirt and are eligible for up to $25 in reimbursement for supplies and snacks related to the project! Your t-shirt and reimbursement will be distributed after our Day of Service.

Q: How do I sign up as a Team Captain?

A: Go to the signup page here and sign up for an existing project that needs a captain OR choose Option A – “Volunteer Captain” and we’ll work with you to find a project!

Q: What if I can’t complete my project on the date selected?

A: If you are unable to complete your project on or by September 19, we understand! You can choose the date and time that works best for your group. If you need to choose a different date, please contact alexis@louisvillepride.com and we will work with you to promote your project.

Q: Can I do a different project or a project that is not currently listed?

A: Get in touch with us and we will be happy to help you come up with a project that works for you!

Q: Will LPF provide supplies and/or reimburse me for supplies?

A: LPF will have trash bags and gloves available for teams to pick up. If you are registered as a team captain, we will reimburse you for up to $25 for supplies or snacks for your team. Team leaders will receive an email with reimbursement instructions, and reimbursements will be distributed after our Day of Service.

Q: How do I decide where to do my clean up project?

A: Please see this document for a list of suggested cleanup sites from the Louisville Metro Parks & Recreation Department. You can also choose any area of the city that needs help!

Q: What if it rains or other severe weather occurs?

A: If the weekend of September 19th is rainy, project times can be shifted or completed the following weekend.

Q: What about COVID-19 precautions?

A: Even though you will be gathering with others to complete your project, we want you to stay safe and healthy! Please follow all COVID-19 safety precautions, including wearing a mask at all times and maintaining social distance of a least 6 feet. Please choose outdoor projects if possible – if you choose an indoor project, please only choose those that are in well-ventilated areas. If you are not feeling well or are in a high risk category, stay healthy at home! You can still contribute by recruiting volunteers or donating the to the clothing drive.

Q: What should I donate?

A: Check our Amazon wishlist here! The biggest needs currently are children and teens underwear, bras, socks, hair bonnets, and durags.

Q: Can I donate used clothes?

A: Used clothes donations cannot be accepted. If you have used clothes you wish to donate, we can help refer you to other organizations that might be accepting donations.

Q: Can I purchase items locally instead of online?

A: Absolutely! You can refer to our wishlist for needed items, but the items themselves may be purchased anywhere.

Q: When are purchases needed by?

A: Donations can be made any time, but this supply drive is aiming to get as many donations as possible by September 20th! Clothe the West is hosting a giveaway on September 26th, and we’d like to make sure they have plenty of personal hygiene items (shampoo, bath soap, toothbrushes, deodorant), socks, underwear, and hair bonnets/durags for those participating in that event.
